How To Reduce Fever Naturally?

Fever can be a symptom of various diseases and, in any case, it is not advisable to self-medicate without first consulting with your doctor. However, it is valid to resort to certain measures to help lower fever naturally and promote relief.

The following measures revolve around good hydration. When the body has enough fluid it becomes much easier for it to function properly and this translates into:

  • Joint lubrication.
  • Good temperature regulation.
  • Good absorption of nutrients during digestion.
  • Recovery of minerals and electrolytes lost when sweating.

Simple, but effective methods

Remember that the human body is made up of a high percentage of water (60%, that is, more than half of the total body weight).

Therefore, water is an essential element for cells and must be taken on a regular basis and, especially, when there is discomfort or illness.

So, when it comes to reducing the fever, in the first instance, you have to resort to hydration. Now, it is not about drinking an excessive amount of water or any type of drink.

It is about resorting to what can help balance the functioning of the body by replenishing salts, minerals and electrolytes.

Drink water, without exaggeration

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that adequate daily fluid intake is as follows:

  • About 15 1/2 cups (3.7 liters) of liquid for men
  • About 11 1/2 cups (2.7 liters) of fluid per day for women

These recommendations include liquids from water, beverages, and food. About 20 percent of your daily fluid intake usually comes from food and the rest from beverages.

It is also totally counterproductive to drink excessive amounts of water, since far from hydrating, it will only cause the dissolution of body salts (hyponatremia).

It is important not to ignore thirst and hydrate whenever it occurs, especially when there is a fever. Drinking calmly, taking small but frequent sips, will help the body regain balance and, therefore, the correct body temperature.

No eat much

In the same way that excess fluids can be harmful, it is also advisable to avoid eating large meals when you have a fever.

The reason is that, when digesting after eating, the body expends energy that keeps the temperature high. Therefore, it is best to eat several light meals throughout the day. In this sense, the best options will be broths, soups and other easy-to-digest dishes.

To lower the fever naturally, in addition to the above measures, you can opt for the following remedies. It should be noted that, in the case of children, it is necessary to consult with the pediatrician before administering them.
