Harvard Scientific Study Recommends That People Stop Drinking Low-fat Milk

The consumption of low-fat milk makes us feel less satiated, so we need to eat more, which derives in weight gain

Cow’s milk has for years been one of the most questioned foods in terms of its benefits and nutrition. However, many people have considered it an essential part of their diet. Also, in the quest to lose weight or maintain a beautiful figure, these people have chosen to consume low-fat milk.

And so, in this way, enjoy its delicious taste and its “benefits”. However, David Ludwig, a scientist at Harvard University, conducted a study questioning the purported benefits of milk. Especially the famous low-fat milk.

The research, which was published in the journal of the American Pediatric Medical Association, revealed that when fat is removed from milk, it is replaced by sugars. Which can be potentially more damaging in the long run.

The alarm has always been raised to the population about the dangers of consuming sugary drinks. However, low-fat milk has never been included among these.

In his study, Dr. Ludwig questions the justification for promoting low-fat milk. Since it  considers that all liquids that contain calories and sugars should be treated with the same caution.

Is it necessary to consume cow’s milk?

The scientist agrees with other investigations. Since they consider that humans do not need the nutritional requirements of cow’s milk. And that even this can be very harmful to the body.

Cow’s milk became popular for its calcium content. In fact, for many experts, it is essential for bone health. However, there are other foods that are richer in calcium than cow’s milk. These, in addition, do not have the negative effects on health that it can have in the long term.

Broccoli

A clear example of this are broccoli, kale, arugula, or spinach. These have more than 160 mg of calcium per serving. There are also other sources such as sardines, nuts, seeds, and legumes that can provide significant amounts per serving.

Therefore, no person needs to consume large amounts of milk to keep their bones healthy. Instead, you must choose to increase your consumption of other, healthier foods.

When referring to low-fat milk, the argument for not consuming it becomes even clearer . As the Harvard scientist explains, there are few clinical trials in which the effects of low-fat milk compared to whole milk could be clear .

On the contrary, several studies have found that people who consume low-fat milk feel less satiated and are more likely to gain weight, since they have a greater need to increase their caloric intake.

Where does low-fat milk come from?

Today, many nutritionists still recommend the consumption of “low-fat” milk for weight loss.

However, studies are becoming clearer in stating this. This product is not as good as it has been painted on the market for a couple of decades. Experts suggest that it is better to consume whole milk. As long as it is organic.

Dairy products can improve heart health, diabetes, vitamin absorption, or the risk of colon cancer, among others. However, we should ask ourselves the same question first: Where does milk come from?

Milk

We could say that today it is very difficult to find a type of milk that is healthy for our body. The amount of hormones that have been applied to the cows have significantly altered the product . They have turned it into something really dangerous for the body.

Many of us are still ignorant of the damage that milk can do to the body. However, we must be aware that nothing is like a few decades ago. Technology has affected food. Consequently we must doubt those “wonderful and delicious” products that we find daily in the market.
