How To Dye At Home

Maybe you don’t have time to go to the salon, or maybe you want to save a little money. In that case, the solution is to dye your hair at home. However, before you start applying the dye, you should take into account some recommendations.

Today, the hair coloring products you can buy have greatly improved their formulas. Without spending too much you can achieve similar effects to those of the hairdresser. In addition, there are brands that offer mildly aggressive products, that is, with less chemicals, for a more natural dyeing.

Always think about quality and price. The most expensive is not always the best, but also remember that sometimes cheap is expensive. With a poor quality dye, you will inevitably have to use more quantity, re-dye in a few days or go to the hairdresser to fix the mess.

If you’ve never dyed yourself at home, ask for help. You can always count on a friend, sister, mother, cousin or neighbor to help you. Keep in mind that you will not be able to reach every part of your hair yourself, if it is very long, for example.

And first, gather everything that you will need. You will need clothes that you do not use and can stain, a towel, gloves and a bathing cap (if they are not included in the kit), mirror, comb, cotton, cream to avoid staining the skin and, most importantly, patience.

Be very orderly with all the products you use, be cautious. This way you will not only avoid mistakes, but you will also achieve better results, you will not get everything in the house dirty and the activity will become a fun day.

A matter of technique

If your idea is to dye to cover gray hair, start applying in that area (closer to the scalp). This way the product works longer and penetrates better.

On the other hand, if you are looking to lighten the tone, start where you have it darkest. If you already have it in a light color, start at the roots, which is where it grows with the natural color.

When it comes to dyeing, you need to divide your hair into sections.  You can use a “fishtail” comb to better separate and apply the product evenly. Let the dye act for the time indicated in the instructions and, when rinsing, take the opportunity to do a gentle massage.

Remember that the dye is an external or foreign agent for your hair and can be damaged, so it is important to follow the instructions. Rinse with cold water so that the hair has more shine and the color lasts much longer.

Even if you use a permanent dye, you should touch up the color at the roots according to the growth of your hair. The average is between 4 and 5 weeks, depending on the difference in tone between natural and dyed hair. As you practice, you will get better results.
